Most of the following signs are done on thin Basswood plaques* which measure 7-1/8" x 5-1/8". (Exceptions are noted in the descriptions.)
Unless otherwise specified, the edges are painted in
metallic "Emperor's Gold" or "Antique Gold." Satin finish. Backs are unpainted unless otherwise specified in the description. Ready for you to mount according to your needs: temporarily with any of the modern mounting tapes, etc., or permanently with brads or screws.

*Please be aware that wood does not lend itself easily to being cut against the grain as these ornate curves require, so that the edges in areas appear to have a rough surface, unlike a metal surface.
This is inherent to the nature of wood and cannot be overcome by any amount of sanding.

For the iris lover who is looking for something larger, perhaps this is what you've been hunting for. This large plaque measures 10-3/8 x 7-1/2 x 3/8 inch. A very luscious pale pink iris with white fringes is set against a linen colored background. Tole decorative borders are done in the same pale pink with white accents. Lettering likewise in the same white as is in the fringed edges of the flower. Satin varnish. Hang with small brads or ornate tacks; could probably be hung by double stick tape applied on back.

I've shown what it would look like if you wanted to affix a grosgrain (or other type) ribbon for hanging. Here's one waiting for the certain person who's been hunting for something "just right" for their hard-to-match color scheme! A beautiful pale apricot over lemon fringed bicolor iris being visited by a butterfly is set off by a soft Wedgwood blue background. Nasturtium lovers, I know you're out there!!! I've done up another one with one of my favorite flowers, this time in a 5 x 7 x ¾ pine with French corners. Background is parchment. "Sewn" lettering and black stripe outline give sign a happy Country feel. Outer border is ochre, carrying through the dominant colors of the flowers. Gloss finish. Sawtooth hanger on back. Nasturtiums always make you smile, and a smile brightens up any day. So hang a little sunshine on your powder room door!

Sweet violets... here they are! It's that time of year again and one of my favorite flowers are popping up everywhere. There are still times when you can delight in their perfume without being overwhelmed by all the car fumes that permeate everything we're expected to breathe any more. Around my place, the lawn doesn't get mown until the violets are done blooming! I painted these on a softly fluted edged 5 x 7 pine piece with deep violet borders and lettering, the violets set against a parchment color background that gives it a Vintage look. Satin varnish. Sawtooth hanger.

You might hunt high and low before you find a powder room sign with Lily of the Valley so grab it while you found it! I love these delicious little bells that seem to hide demurely amongst the leaves and hardly get discovered before they are all spent for the year. I've learned to hunt for them whenever I pass by the beds and pull as many stems as I can to enjoy an indoor bouquet of beauty and ambrosia. Then I gradually dry them and you can still catch the smell of spring even into the dead of winter if you hold them up to your nose and softly inhale. What a gift that is! But I ramble on... This is the second one of these flowers I've painted this Spring. This time I've put them on a parchment background, with a deep green contrasting border. Satin finish. Sawtooth hanger.

I had the urge to try to capture the delicate colors of yellows, oranges, pinks and blues of these watercolor pansies with pastels instead of painting with a paintbrush and "canned" paints, so I had fun with this one. I've used a wax pencil for detailing in places. Plaque background is parchment. Lettering and routed corners painted in metallic gold. Satin finish. Thin plaque measures 5¼ x 7¼ x 1/3".  With the high-key, soft colors of this large plaque, it was very difficult to try to show it correctly in webcolor. The larger image gives you a better impression of the overall details, whereas this smaller inset image is more accurate as to actual appearance. Background is buttermilk (a cream with a yellowish tone, as shown in small insert.) The rose is done in soft colors reminiscent of a watercolor. The deep pink of the roses's shadowed petals are carried out in the "tole" striping around the edges, which are accented in the white of the lettering. The round top inset rosebud with lattice behind completes the look and feel of Cottage Chic. A fresh and delightful way to invite people in to your facilities. Edges are completed in deep pink. This is truly a Cottage Chic sign, if not also a shabby one... The edges have some rough spots and there are some very slight but interesting imperfections in the surface of the face of the piece. If you look very closely, you can
 pick up traces of the undercoat of the lettering and traces of the pencil locator marks and some other things... all of which are loosely classified as "local charm." *-) The old fashioned roses are the most luscious soft pink I could aim for (like cotton candy)---I have the impulse to walk up and lick 'em every time I see them. The pink is carried through in the tole border and the lettering. A fresh, simple, sweet, soft and luscious sign! Large sign measures 10 1/4 x 7-1/2 x 1/4". Satin finish. Cowgirls & Cowboys Facilities door signs

 Fun matching set of door signs for cowgirls and cowboys, big or small. (Cartoons rarely offend anybody, even in this hypersensitive day and age!) These are done on ¼" thick plywood and measure ~3" x 10". Webcolor doesn't correctly show their mellow wood tone, which I left natural. I applied a couple of coats interior/exterior gloss polyurethane varnish so they could withstand a little weathering, if necessary (i.e., if you've got temp. outhouses, etc.) Handpainted freehand, so your set will be different from any others I might make! This one's the pot at the end of the rainbow for you if you're one of those people who actually sticks to authentic color schemes of Victorian times in your Victorian decorating theme and has the chutzpah to celebrate using mustard (dark ochre)! This Victorian lady is done on an ivory background surrounded by deep ochre border. She carries an ochre purse to compliment her green dress. I splattered the whole works after I finished, to give it an age-spotted appearance. Nicely varnished. I've drilled a hole in the back so you can easily hang it simply from a small nail, brad or screw. Done on ¾" thick grooved pine, it measures 7" in length and 5" across at its widest.

For those of you looking for something understated and tongue-in-cheek retro, this is just the thing! Small, "discrete" door markers measure approx. 3¼" high by 5¼" long by 1/2" thick (wood). Light enough to apply with double-sided mounting tape. With these shown, I tried to make them mimic ivory porcelain (but please remember they are wood---don't expect the impossible!). Individual variations are detailed with descriptions for each.

Redneck Door Markers Here are just the thing to show you, too, (tongue-in-cheek) have
 Sometimes the rest of us "out there" get just a little bit fed up with all the pretense going on with seemingly everybody. Small, "discrete" door markers measure approx. 3¼" high by 5¼" long by ½" thick. Light enough to apply with double-sided mounting tape. Nice wood grain shows through neutral stain which would go well with oak, pine or any of the lighter stains they're using on doors and cabinetry these days. Again, as noted in the box under W.C. signs just above, unless indicated otherwise, these are one-only items. Please do not order in multiples hoping I'll make you more "on order"!
