But I ran out of appropriate places to put things when I cleaned out "the Attic" page...and this most certainly qualifies as something for dorm life!!!) A half-dozen brightly colored, highly detailed boy-girl pairs sporting silly grins, holding a flower of some sort. (A dozen clothespins/pack) Very Politically Incorrect---there's something here to offend every stereotype.** Sanded, high gloss finish--meant to be used, but disclaimer for any damage to delicate clothes that might snag on any left-over rough areas. "Gift packaged" in plastic, with header label. Perfect gift for the person going away to college or setting up house-keeping for the first time.  One only. Fun kids sign made from a nice smooth piece of 1" thick cedar---that knothole was just perfect for nestling in the little handpainted plaster bear raiding the beehive.  This is for the kid in all of us. Recycled board had a pretty smooth surface except for one large rough knot area just above the 1st "o", and a smaller knot between 1st line and the cotton candy. Entirely freehand painted. Has an enamel-like finish, which I then sanded down to the wood in areas on the edges, to mimic it getting banged around, as it would have at a Fair or Carnival. Measures 16-1/2" long by 5-3/8" high on 5/8" thick wood. With the twisted and bent wire hanger, it has overall hanging height of 10-1/2". Signed on front. My label applied to back.  One of a kind Exit sign. This is done on a rough edged piece of recycled wood. The suit sleeve is done in a dark green wash. The sleeve buttons and cufflink are in metallic gold, which doesn't show properly in webcolor. (The black border is the background, not part of the sign.) The pointing hand portion is done with pen-and-ink drawing, then the hand is stained slightly to offset it. I liked the old-timey look of the rough saw marks on this part of the board, so I left them unstained. I curved the corners of this end for a little variety. This sign covers all bases in a 10-3/8 w x 7-5/8 board. This is one of those All Purpose signs: Do you have days when you need to be reminded where you even are??? (You might be able to guess I'd just had "one of those days" when I was inspired to make up this sign!) Or want to let somebody know "they've arrived"?  A fun small sign for a touch of nostalgia for the farm. This is done on a 1/2" thick piece of wood, measuring 8-7/8" wide x 6-7/8". It's painted in barn red, with lettering in 2 shades of ochre and sides in ochre. All handpainted from scratch (no pun intended), of course. I left it matte (no varnish) and really scuffed it up to make it look like it's hung around the homestead awhile! I liked the twine instead of the wire on this one. Back is painted black and my label applied.

This is another one of those that was "just perfect" when it was finished.
 This is done on a 10" x 7-1/2" x 3/8" piece of weathered wood that has a relatively smooth surface but lots of horizontal striations that give it all kinds of character. Colors are barn red background with Mustard "chicks" and ivory "FOR SALE". The 3 fuzzy little chicks grab you with their cuteness! Sides are painted mustard. I've left it matte and sanded and scuffed it up for an authentic shabby chic look. Back is painted flat black, with my label applied. The twine hanger gives it a 13-1/2" hanging length. This one's "a Keeper." (Feel like hanging onto it myself!!!) Will give a real down-home farm atmosphere wherever you hang it!

 A little atmosphere for small spaces... I was having such fun doing hens and chicks, I couldn't help myself. Gotta have something for everyone! This is done on a scrap measuring 10-5/8" x 2-5/8" x 3/8". With twine hanger, it's about 10" hanging length. Lettering and outer edges are barn red. A just for rabbit lovers, this one's done on a nice dark-stained piece of wood with horizontal striations. Three different "breeds" of rabbits here in the straw. The lettering is done in an aged-looking white. Side edges are done in ochre. It's been given a soft satin coat of varnish, then sanded and scuffed up for that antique, shabby chic look. Sign measures 12-3/8" x 6-1/4 x 1/4". With bent wire hanger added, overall hanging length is 13-1/4" +. Back is painted black, with my label applied. Weighs 9 0z.

For something a little bit different, I did this one in pastels (except the lettering and border). Makes a nice, fresh little sign, complimented by the warm colored natural wood. Some irregularities in the wood's surface and defects (as seen from the edges only), and I've accentuated the look by heavily sanding the edges for that aged, shabby chic look.. I've left the sides unpainted. Back painted black, with my label applied. Measures 10.5" x 7.5" x 1/4". Bent wire hanger added after the scan brings overall hanging height to ~13". Weighs 9 oz.

For those who like a somewhat realistic look, this nice little sign fits the bill. The little brown rabbit on straw sort of blends in with the nice rich dark-toned wood, just like Nature's camouflage would in the wild. Black lettering with ochre border. Sides are painted midnite blue. I've scuffed and sanded it for that aged, shabby chic look so it looks like it's been hanging around the farm awhile. Back is painted black, with my label applied. Holsteins seem to be the rage in the Fine Art world currently and this idea kept popping up in my mind, stimulated by certain people I deal with in my daily doin's. I figured this "said it all"--it could be just a fun decorative sign for somebody who's into cows, or it could be a subtle message to somebody, or it could be a tongue-in-cheek self-acknowledgement to all your very own visitors?!??? Makes a nice, fresh color spot. Measures 10-3/8" x 10-3/4" x 3/8". Bent wire hanger brings overall hanging length to a little over 15". Surface is somewhat rough (see enlargement for better idea). Sides and back are painted black and my label's been applied. Weighs 12.5 oz.

This could possibly be taken as a double entendre`on some days... Hang it up and watch smiles come across peoples' faces and just guess what they're thinking! I seem to have a recurring cowboy theme popping in at odd times. Maybe it's the National Rodeo Finals being televised? Maybe it's just love of cowboys. Anyhow, sometimes they do "get forgetful" about certain women's expectations when it comes to The Great Indoors. Maybe you know somebody who'd get a kick out of it...or maybe you could use it around your own place?! Actual sign measures 9" wide x 7" high x 1/4", with a long soft black bent wire hanger that brings overall hanging height to 14-1/4". (The wire, of course, is easily shortened, if desired...or you could even remove it, I s'pose.) It's done on a really knotty, somewhat rough piece of recycled plywood that looks like the sort of thing somebody might've picked up around the place in desperation to make this sign up. I further sanded off the edges for that used and abused aged look. Be sure to look at the enlargement for "up close and personal" look at rustic "trim" and pointing hands, plus character of the wood. Colors are rust, black and buttermilk. Edges are black. The back (which has BIG surface defects...but the wood is sound) is painted black, has my label applied.

This is done on a nice, heavy 5/8" thick piece of scrapwood that
 has some cut away (for reasons unknown to me) along the top and the bottom. Seemed to me like just the sort of thing a person might grab to hang this on their porch or by the front or back door. You can probably make out some of the other surface irregularities. I sanded it to enhance the defects and give it even more "age." Measures 15" long by 5-3/4" high. Takes about 9-3/4" hanging length with bent wire hanger. The message is plain and simple! Weighs 1#4 oz.

Here's another one with the same message but a little more formal and polite about it. *-)
This piece of weathered scrapwood measures 15" long by 4" wide by 5/8" thick. It's got an overall hanging height of about 10-1/2", with the bent wire hanger. This is done in flat barn red and buttermilk on a greyed-in, weathered,
 somewhat battered 3-1/2" board measuring 15 1/2" long. I used flat paints and no varnish and went back and scuffed and sanded it all a bit more even. I even pounded and pried at it with a hammer where any sensible person would've put it up with nails, rather than the bent wire it comes to you with. Weighs 11 oz. Allow 1# shipping wt.  This sign really has an Old Time feel to it. Even the piece of wood "cooperated" with the look I was trying for, with a horizontal irregularity all the way across and the wood itself took on such a nice stain! I'd been wandering through antique shops, looking at old handpainted pieces with Folk Art scenes and such and this idea just got burned in my mind until I had to "get it out" and onto something!
