This is a one-of-a-kind sign made on a piece of hand-cut weathered wood (this piece happens to be plywood) Click on photo (R) to see enlarged picture. This
 was a case where I rejected the smooth side and purposely picked the "bad" side just for my sign idea---board surface is quite rough in texture with multiple "defects." I've stained it to sort of a dull burnt umber ("walnut"?) coloring so that it would make a striking offset for the artist rendering of orange and crimson poppies in the insert and the metallic gold painted accents on borders and decorative tole details. The painting is done over gessoed ground, in artist’s grade acrylics, with added quill pen detailing, signed and then given several protective coats of varnish. Sign also bears my © Austin Originals in the lower right frontispiece. Entire sign has been given a satin varnish, then buffed down. Side edges are in green to match the lettering.  Back is painted flat black, with screw eyes and wire for hanging. Best for indoors use. Sign measures 10.5" wide x 14.5" long. Actual weight = 1# 3 oz. Allow 2# shipping wt.  "Shabby Chic" Pink Roses arch sign . Pale Roses arch Welcome sign. Measures ~ 13.5" wide by ~7" high. Screw eyes and wired for hanging on back. Oil painting of pink roses on muted blue background. "Welcome" lettered in mauve tone, outlined in ink + gold final outline. Arch border is done in darker wine color with gold painted striping between 2 sections of that border. Satin finish. Backside is flat painted. Signed Austin on front. I'm calling it "shabby chic" because small areas of the background show some paint flecks and vague indentations in the wood, far below the glazing.  There must be someone out there as crazy about lilacs as I am! This one's shabby chic with crackled paint and all, then sanded on top of that. I show a section enlarged (below) to give you a better idea of the texture than this photo may show on your browser. It measures 15-7/8" long by 5-1/2" high. I added a brass hanger chain from the top for a classy look. This gives it an overall hanging height of 10-1/4". Edges are painted in a purple wash. I signed the front after pics were taken. Back has my label applied. Weighs 1# 1 oz.  Allow 2# shipping wt.

 Here's a sunny sign that'd be great by the front door! I left the background natural wood showing through and hand cut out one large sunflower and painted in a couple more in the lower "background" area. Welcome is painted in a nice clean opaque sunshine yellow. Wood surface has some small knots and longitudinal defects that fit right in with the rest of the look. The carefree raffia bow (you can move it around if you don't like it there) gives that feeling of abandon that summertime brings. Sign measures 13-1/2" high (from top of main sunflower) and 12" across by 1/4" thick. Bent wire hanger brings overall hanging height to 16".

 Another big, bright, pop-your-eyes-out colorful, cheery Welcome sign! This one measures 19" at its widest flower point. It's 11-1/4" high from top of sunflower to bottom of sign. The twisted, bent wire hanger (which you can't see clearly here) brings it to an overall hanging height of 14". Wood piece is 3/8" thick. I used variations of opaque cobalt blue as a contrasting background to the yellow and oranges in the sunflowers. Painting continues around the edges. The "Welcome" is in a rich raw sienna with opaque undercoat in sunny yellow showing as outlining. The BIG raffia bow just adds to the sense of fun! Board has longitudinal surface irregularities. I've sanded off here and there to give it a used-lovingly abused look. Signed on front. Back is painted black and my label applied. Actual wt. = 1# 5 oz. (It's too big for USPS boxes, so probably will ship 1st Class rather than Priority. You can expect to have to fluff up the raffia after the trip!)

A cheery small sign (measures approx. 7-1/2" wide by 9" high) but gives a BIG greeting. Handpainted on nicely weathered wood with deep, slightly angled longitudinal striations, it's finished in low gloss. Wonderful size for an entryway, porch or cabin---or just about anywhere!
